Management Board interview Exclusive: Avemio – In pole position in Europe

Carsten Müller, finanztrend.de, August 14, 2024:

The Avemio Group, the largest trading partner for professional film and television technology in the German-speaking market, aims to become the European market leader.

There is currently no reseller for professional video technology with a European presence. With its presence in two countries – Germany and Austria – the Avemio Group is already an exception in this respect. Now Ralf P. Pfeffer, CEO of the listed company Avemio AG, is aiming to become the European market leader, following the example of the US market leader B&H. The plan associated with the IPO to turn one hundred million euros in annual turnover into one billion euros in the medium term is based on a target list of more than a dozen companies. The recently acquired LEA Group serves as a financing partner with a global network of investors and financiers. We spoke to CEO Ralf P. Pfeffer about the ongoing transformation into a media technology group, a “diamond in the rough” among the investments and the lessons learned from the reverse IPO.

Finanztrends: For those who may not yet be familiar with Avemio AG: How do you earn your money and what are your standards for your own business development?

Ralf P. Pfeffer: ” The Avemio Group is the leading trading partner for professional film and television technology in the German-speaking market.
Anyone who produces moving images for commercial purposes knows our brands.
We are by far the manufacturer-independent supplier of hardware and software with the highest turnover in this sector.

We are already the largest retail group in the European Union and our ambition is to fill the vacant position of European market leader.
There is currently no reseller for professional video technology with a European presence.
With our presence in two countries – Germany and Austria – we are already an exception in this respect.

The benchmark for a European market leader is based on the US market leader (B&H, New York), which generates more than six billion euros in sales in a US market of a similar size to the European Union.

Avemio is in the midst of its transformation from a trading company to a media technology group.
A suitable role model is Bechtle AG, which has transformed itself from a German IT trading company into Europe’s largest IT system house.

Finanztrends: How far has your transformation already progressed?

Ralf P. Pfeffer: With the merger of the MoovIT Group from Cologne last year, we took a major step forward in this respect.
Parallel to this acquisition, we invested millions in the area of IT/AI.
The aim was and is to use our dominant market position to lead the technological change associated with the introduction of cloud technologies in particular.

Finanztrends: Major sporting events such as the European Football Championships or the Olympic Games this summer are highlights for viewers, but also for program makers such as TV stations or other broadcasters.
What significance do such major events have for your business?

Ralf P. Pfeffer: Our unique selling points become apparent in connection with major sporting events.
If you want to see a summary on the news or access a media library shortly after the final whistle of a soccer match as part of a tournament that attracts worldwide attention, then this is based on MoovIT’s expertise, which is booked for such events.

In April of this year, MoovIT was able to present its technological edge as part of the Avemio Group for the first time as a cloud solution at the world’s largest trade fair (NAB) in Las Vegas and met with a remarkably positive response.

Finanztrends: The past financial year 2023 was disappointing from a market perspective – and certainly from yours too.
Your consolidated turnover was just under EUR 100 million with a significant decline in EBIT and net profit.
What were the main reasons for the fact that the earnings performance was below your original forecast with a balanced EBITDA?
